Our Farm Services

Farm Animal Care

At Aldgate Field and Farm Vets, we are committed to providing a modern and proactive approach to farm animal medicine. We provide a forward-thinking approach to health, welfare and production in herds and flocks of any size.

Based in Driffield, our own vets provide a 24-hour, 365 days a year service to farm clients. Our farm animal services are detailed below.

Our services

Routine fertility visits

We undertake regular routine fertility visits with the majority of our dairy clients. This enables us to assist our clients in improving fertility and therefore profitability in their herds. We use a wireless ultrasound scanner, meaning we can set up quickly and work in the majority of environments with ease

Herd Health Schemes

A large number of our beef suckler herds are members of CHECS-accredited schemes, undertaking regular testing for diseases such as IBR, BVDV, leptospirosis and neospora. We undertake regular routine blood sampling of herds and assist in advising about scheme requirements

Red Tractor assurance scheme

We undertake annual herd and flock health reviews with our clients for the Red Tractor assurance schemes. This involves reviewing farm data and advising on any measures we feel could be implemented to improve health and productivity in a flock or herd.

Annual Health and Welfare Pathway Review

We can assist on the application for the current funding which is available via the RPA. We conduct an on farm review and perform the necessary testing, and generate a report to enable the funding claim. This review will generate a VAN number at no extra charge if required.

Veterinary Attestation number (VAN)

For clients selling to market, who are not Red Tractor Assured or have not had an AHWP review, we can do an on farm visit to provide the required VAN number.

TB Testing

We work with UK Farmcare to deliver statutory TB testing to our clients. We also undertake private TB work for clients who require pre or post-movement testing.

Bull breeding soundness examinations

Three of our farm vets have undertaken the BCVA bull breeding soundness training and are available to perform breeding soundness exams, either for prospective sales or prior to use within herds.

Laboratory testing

We have facilities to run in a variety of in-house blood samples for our large animal patients.

We now send all faecal worm egg counts away as we have a courier service to Axiom laboratories which provide a very accurate, rapid turnaround.

Visit fees

We now offer a reduced visit fee for prebooked routine visits. This allows us to book our visits in a more economical manner and thus passing on the savings to clients.  To qualify for these reduced rates, visits must be booked at least 48hrs in advance.

We have also replaced the banding system with a mileage charge.

Our new charges, effective of 2/6/25, excluding VAT are

·       Pre-booked Visit - £20.83 + mileage

·       Standard Visit - £40.87 + mileage

·       OOH visit - £ 62.50 + mileage

(Mileage is charged as £1.05/mile based on a return visit to the surgery)
